Domestic and Sexual Violence Prevention Educator

21 hours per week, 0.6 fte

 The Domestic and Sexual Violence Prevention Educator is a member of NELCWIT’s community education and hotline teams and is supervised by the Community Programs Director.  Based in Greenfield, the Prevention Educator provides education and outreach to groups throughout the region, as well as psycho-educational groups for children and adults who have witnessed or experienced violence, as directed by the Massachusetts Rural Domestic and Sexual Violence Program.

 Primary Responsibilities:

1.   Provide workshops and educational programs on violence against women to community groups, high school students, etc.

2.    Provide training and education on domestic violence prevention to professionals (e.g. nurses, physicians, teachers, other human service providers, fire or police personnel, clergy).

3.   Provide outreach throughout the Franklin County-North Quabbin area. Provide outreach to diverse and/or underserved communities and families, such as Latinas and other people of color, people with disabilities, and the elderly.

4.   Education and outreach through media as appropriate.

5.   Provide psycho-educational groups for parents and/or their children.

 Other Responsibilities:

1.    Answer the hotline during daytime hours for 1.5 hours per week. Provide emergency coverage for daytime hotline when necessary.

2.    Complete all paperwork as required by agency and funding sources.

3.   Schedule to be determined in conjunction with supervisor.

4.   Complete all paperwork as required by agency and funding sources.

5.   Meet bi-weekly with program supervisor for administrative and programmatic supervision.

6.   Attend Community Education Team meetings, all Rural-DPH meetings, and other NELCWIT staff meetings as required.

7.   All other job responsibilities consistent with job description and designated by your supervisor.

 Skills required:

         Thorough understanding of the dynamics of domestic and sexual violence and oppression.

       Strong public speaking skills.

       Ability to facilitate and to clearly present information to groups.

       Community leadership skills and/or community organizer skills and experience.

       Comfortable working with children, pre-teens and teenagers.

       Ability to engage respectfully and sensitively with the rural communities being served. 

       Spanish-English bilingual a plus.

 Qualifications:

       Willingness and ability to attend required domestic violence and sexual assault training.

     Associates degree and/or relevant life and work experience preferred.

       Ability to use computers to collect data, complete paperwork, and access information on the internet.

     Working knowledge of the rural communities in the Franklin County-North Quabbin area. 

     Commitment to ending violence against women and children.

     Commitment to social change through active participation in working towards ending racism, classism, homophobia, ableism, and all oppressions.  Willingness to learn about and actively use multicultural awareness and understanding in daily work. 

     Ability to model and uphold appropriate boundaries in work with clients, co-workers, supervisor, and the community.

Starting salary: $14.75/hour. Union position, 21 hours per week. Benefits consistent with Union contract.
