HOTLINE AND CRISIS COUNSELOR-ADVOCATES

EVENINGS, OVERNIGHTS, WEEKENDS, AND HOLIDAYS

Work From Home

With supervision by the Director of Community Programs, these positions will provide hotline coverage from 6 p.m. to 9 a.m., Monday through Thursday, and 24-hour coverage on Friday evening and overnight, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.  The Evening, Overnight, Weekend, and Holiday Hotline and Crisis Counselor-Advocates answer the hotline by cell phone and are paid a fixed amount per shift, with pay at regular hourly rate for time actually on calls or providing hospital advocacy. 

Responsibilities:

1.       Answer hotline, providing information and referrals regarding NELCWIT programs and    community services.

2.       Provide follow-up information.

3.       Must be able to stay within 30 minutes of Greenfield and have reliable transportation.

4.       Must be able to provide medical advocacy at Greenfield and Athol hospitals for sexual assault victims.

5.       Must be able to answer calls in a relatively quiet place where you will not be interrupted.

6.       Complete and turn in all paperwork daily.

7.       Additional tasks consistent with job description as assigned by supervisor.

 Rate of Pay:
$30 per day Monday through Friday overnight, $50 per 24-hour shift Saturday and Sunday, $75 per shift holidays and snow days.  $14.75/hour when on calls, medical advocacy visits, completing paperwork.  Weekday, daytime shifts are paid $14.75 hourly.

 Skills required:
1.  Thorough understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence.
2.  Ability to engage in safety-planning with victims and assess a caller’s level of danger.
3.  Basic computer literacy.
English/Spanish bilingual a plus.

 Qualifications:
1.  MA Rape Crisis Certification or ability to become certified.
2.  Must be located in an area with clear and consistent cell phone service/reception for the duration of each shift.

3. Associates degree and/or relevant life and work experience preferred.
4.  Ability to model and uphold appropriate boundaries in work with clients, co-workers, supervisor, and community.
5.  Commitment to social change through active participation in fighting against racism, classism, homophobia, ableism, ageism and all oppression.
6.  Willingness to learn about and actively use multicultural awareness and understanding in daily work.
7.  Commitment to ending violence.
